Panel: The Mahler Discussions

Two important scholars join the Moving Sounds Festival’s composers and performers to create a rich discussion on Gustav Mahler and his influence on contemporary music and culture: Columbia University lecturer Marilyn McCoy, author of Gustav Mahler’s Path to the New Music: Musical Time and Modernism, and Thomas Schäfer, the director of the International Music Institute Darmstadt and author of Modellfall Mahler: Kompositorische Rezeption in zeitgenössischer Musik (“The model case of Mahler: compositional reception in contemporary
music”). These scholars join festival composers Elisabeth Harnik, Manuela Meier, Patricia Alessandrini, Oliver SchnellerTaylor Brook, Meaghan Burke, and Bernd Klug.
